If your child is in title one reading, or if you would just like some helpful reading resources to use at home, this is a great place to start. Below are a few links to help you get started. During this unprecedented time, we as parents are now finding ourselves as one of our children's teachers, which may feel like or like . Either way is ok, you can do it and you have support! Here are some resources to help you along the way:

With the sudden school closers, many of us have found our children attached to a screens (iPads, computers, tv), maybe more than we would like. One thing as a teacher I would like to stress is that these programs, like Lalilo and Espark, meet your child at their individual level within their grade level standards. There is no guessing on your part as to what they have or have not mastered. The program give the students a placement test (please do not help on these) to determine their individual levels. As a parent and a teacher, I fully understand and limit my own children's time on screens but am also changing up our screen time rules to adjust to the new realities for the time being. There are many tools out there to help you teach your children at home. Apps and online programs are just one of the many ways to enrich your child's education at home. These online resources can focus on the specific academic skills that your child needs to complete the core standards this school year.

1. The County Extended Learning Opportunities: (ELO) website is up and running! It is amazing! Choose your grade level and off you go! Daily lessons attached to a standard. Parents, if you are not sure where to start, this is a great spot. The "In-Hand" button is where you find the printables for the activities.
These lessons, along with some activities like Espark and Lalilo will be a great way to help keep those awesome brain muscles moving!

2. Age of Learning Apps: Parents, here is a fun learning app you can use at home for free. ABC Mouse is great for children up to 2nd grade. Need more of a challenge? Adventure Academy is perfect for grades 3-8. The reading IQ is for grades Pk-6.

3. Espark: an education program you can use at home to support reading and math. Teachers can sign up, or if your teacher is using a different program and you would like to supplement with a little more, here is a great program.

4. ***Lalilo: This is a great website for practicing phonics, sight words, word families, independent reading and reading comprehension at your child's own level...and its fun!!! This is great reading and language arts practice for grades Tk-4

If your child's teachers already has them signed up, use their class code or you can try code: PBUGPX. If you are a Book Buddy, enter code: QPIJEU and search for your name. This is a program that works on the same skills we do in the classroom and in title one.

5. Khan Academy and Khan Academy Kids: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. Khan Academy Kids is an app that is more focused on the whole child. The Khan Kids program engages kids in core subjects like early literacy, reading, writing, language, and math, while encouraging creativity and building social-emotional skills. Khan Academy kids is an age appropriate Learning platform for learners in Preschool - 1st Grade.

6. Zoo Phonics: Do you have an early learner in your house? Here is a fun video that goes over the Zoo Phonics sounds and characters. In Book Buddies Reading, (and many preschools and kindergarten classrooms in our county) we use Zoo Phonics for reading intervention for our early learners. Zoo Phonics is a multisensory reading program using a multi-modalities approach to learning all aspects of reading, including vocabulary development and articulation.

7. Renaissance Reading is a place to go to digitaly check out AR books for your student (6500 books digitally). With the libraries all being closed, this is a great spot to check out a huge variety of subjects and reading levels.

8. Epic digital library Epic, similar to Renaissance Reading is a place to go to check out digital books. Epic has 40,000 + books, learning videos, quizzes & more and is free for at least 30 days for parents. Many teachers have their classes set up in epic. Please contact your child's teacher for their code if they use it or you could try the 30 day trial.
